Universal Funeral

To get to know Hung Hom, you should take a look the funeral district around Cheong Hang Road, Kowloon City Road, Lou Long Hang Street, and Beiket Street. This area has numerous funeral-related shops, including funeral parlors, coffin shops, and flower shops. Among them, the Grand Hall of the Universal Funeral Parlour is one of the largest funeral halls in Asian cities, established on November 28, 1975, by the funeral king in Hong Kong, Xiao Ming’s assistant.

The reason why Hung Hom became a hub for funeral services is due to the ” Wing Pit Ting farewell pavilion,” approximately located where the current swimming pool of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University stands. It was used as a mortuary. As it was close to the Hung Hom railway station at that time, making it convenient to transport bodies to Wo Hop Shek Cemetery, the funeral parlors took advantage of this location to gather in Hung Hom.
