Now the library serves as a reading room. The bookselves along the walls are filled with old, yellow books.
Inside the library

At the junction of Station Lane, there stands a dilapidated building. Originally, this place housed a library that predates even the Kowloon Public Library and is still open to this day!

The library of the Hung Hom (Three Districts) Kaifong Association is Hong Kong’s first community library. It was established by the collaboration of residents from Hung Hom, Ho Man Tin, and To Kwa Wan, collectively known as “Hung Hom Three Districts” and was inaugurated in 1954. Before this, the Hung Hom (Three Districts) Kaifong Association was involved in various community endeavors, including the construction of a Kwun Yum Temple, operating public offices, providing education, and offering medical services. Today, although the community library remains open, it no longer provide  lending service. The collection inside has turned yellow with age and is preserved in bookshelves, creating a space in Hung Hom steeped in historical significance.
