Wan’s Barber Shop

Walking up to the front of  I-Feng Mansions, there’s a worn-out wooden sign that reads “Wan’s Barber Shop Haircut $29”.

Can you still find a haircut at this price in Hong Kong? A peek inside reveals the true essence of the barber shop. The store is supported by simple iron rods holding up the roof, and the interior facilities are plain to see: a narrow barber table, an old-style barber chair, and a wooden chair. The elderly owner, never considering retirement, says, “I’ve been running this barber shop here for over fifty years. I’ve grown accustomed to living here, and as long as I have the ability, I’ll keep the doors open for business.” With the city’s development advancing rapidly, the survival space for these old shops is shrinking. How much longer can these unique scenes be preserved?
