Holy Trinity Cathedral is a representative of Chinese Renaissance architecture. With its red brick walls and green tiled roof, it resembles a Chinese temple, facing north to south. However, the cross on its roof clearly indicates it is a church. There are only two similar buildings in Hong Kong, the other being St. Mary’s Church is located in Causeway Bay.
Built in 1890, Holy Trinity Cathedral was originally located beside Sacred Hill in Sung Wong Toi. It was later relocated near to the Argyle Street Playground due to government land acquisition. In 1936, it had to move again to its present location due to another government land acquisition, and the church, as we see it today, was completed the following year. In 2009, the church was rated as a Grade II historical building.
