“Kowloon City Through the Lens” – Kai Tak Airport 1

Due to the social instability after the 1911 Revolution, immigrants from Mainland China flocked to Hong Kong. It is said that merchant Ho Kai and Au Tak proposed reclamation for housing developments in the North of Kowloon Bay, but the plan was quashed by the Seamen’s strike and Canton-Hong Kong strike. The colonial government then decided to build an air force base there which later became Kai Tak Airport.
