On April 14th every year, you’re welcome to join the Songkran Festival in Kowloon City! For the Thai people, Songkran symbolizes the beginning of the new year, akin to our traditional Chinese New Year. They wear new clothes, bathe the Buddha, express gratitude for the Buddha’s blessings over the past year, and pray for peace and prosperity in the coming year. After the Buddha bathing ceremony, the lively water splashing festivities commence.
If someone applies white powder on your face and splashes water on you, don’t be surprised. It signifies purification and blessings, wishing the person a fresh start in the new year, free from any negativity. Apart from using water guns and buckets, businesses along the streets even set up hoses to spray water from above, creating a festive atmosphere!
If you want to experience the atmosphere of Thailand’s New Year, consider joining this lively water splashing event and accept everyone’s blessings!
