Sit close to the intersection of South Wall Road and Carpenter Road for over 50 years, Salon Tailor has witnessed the demolition and redevelopment of the Kowloon Walled City area.
Ordering custom made suits in tailor shops was once a trend in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, it is going downhill subject to the rise of fast fashion. Mr. Lam, the owner of Salon Tailor, is eager to keep the shop running, despite his son refusing to inherit the business and the difficulty in recruiting apprentices. The shop survives until now thanks to the landlord, who has been kindly offering rental price at mates’ rate. However, all good things must come to an end. A farewell banner is hanging outside the store saying “Founded in 1964. Retirement giveaway on 57th Anniversary”. Aging has forced Mr. Lam to leave the frontline eventually.
